Interacting with pets lowers our stress hormones

Studies about pets and their impact on mental health show that petting and playing with animals reduces stress-related hormones.and this can happen after just five minutes of interacting with the pet. Therefore, pets are very helpful for anxiety sufferes.playing with a dog or cat increases our levels of serotonin and dopamine hormones. These are hormones that calm the nervous system.when you smile and laugh at your pet’s cute behavior, you help simulate the release of these” happy hormones.”

Additionally, interacting with a friendly dog lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. And it increases the releas of Oxytocin, another chemical in the body that naturally reduces stress. This is why animal-assisted therapies are so powerful.in addition, the sensory action of petting a pet lowers blood pressure. As a result, studies have shown that interacting with dogs can help calm hyperactive or aggressive children.in one study,a group of stressed adults were told to pet a rabbit,a turtle,or a toy.Touching the toy had no effect.but petting a rabbit or a turtle reduced their anxiety.interestingly,in this study, even people who didn’t particularly like animals experienced the benefits.
